Bafa Wubu Hou Tui
Huí Tuì (回退) means "Retreat" or "Step Back."
回 (Huí) = to return, to turn back
退 (Tuì) = to retreat, to withdraw
Together, Huí Tuì means stepping or withdrawing backward — not out of fear, but as a strategic, controlled action.
Concept in Tai Chi:
Huí Tuì is a deliberate and rooted backward movement used to:
Create space
Neutralize force
Set up a counter
It emphasizes maintaining balance while moving backward, often considered more difficult than advancing because it challenges rooting and awareness.
Martial Application:
Commonly used to evade, neutralize an attack, or lure the opponent in.
Often follows Lu (Roll Back) or precedes a counterstrike like Ji (Press) or Cai (Pluck).
Enables you to absorb incoming energy while preparing to respond with structure and timing.
