Bafa Wubu, Lie
Lie (挒) — often translated as "Split" — is one of the Four Corner Energies (Si Yu). It represents a type of spiral or rotational force that separates or tears energy in two directions.
Lie means to split apart, like tearing or wrenching something in two opposing directions.
It involves opposing forces applied simultaneously — typically in a diagonal or spiral pattern.
The goal is to unravel the opponent’s structure by creating internal torque or twisting that breaks their balance and alignment.
Energetic Concept:
Lie Jin (splitting energy) is often performed by using one part of the body to move one way, and another part in the opposite direction — for example, one hand pushes forward while the other pulls back.
This creates a rending or spiraling force that is difficult to resist because it doesn’t come from a single direction.
It’s an expansive and explosive energy that disrupts and controls.
Application:
Used to throw, lock, or take down an opponent by twisting or splitting their axis.
A common example is when one hand grabs or leads one side of the opponent's body, and the other hand or elbow controls or pushes in the opposite direction — like wringing a towel.
It is also used in joint manipulation, sweeps, or throws, where the opponent’s limbs or torso are rotated against themselves.
