Bafa Wubu You Pan
Yòu Pàn (右盼) means "Look Right" or "Attend to the Right."
右 (Yòu) = right
盼 (Pàn) = to look toward, to observe, to be aware of
Together, You Pan means to look or be attentive to the right side, both visually and physically.
Concept in Tai Chi:
Like Zuo Gu (Look Left), You Pan is not just turning your head — it involves:
Adjusting footwork and posture to respond to or control the right side.
Maintaining awareness of the whole body and all directions, especially side angles.
It trains side-stepping, pivoting, shifting weight, and redirecting energy toward the right.
Martial Application:
Used when the opponent’s energy or attack comes from the right side.
Could involve:
Stepping out or pivoting right
Turning the waist and shifting weight to face the threat
Responding with techniques like elbow (Zhou) or pluck (Cai) from the right
It ensures situational awareness in combat and teaches you not to fixate on just one direction
