Bafa Wubu, JI

Ji" (挤) is the third of the Four Primary Hands (Si Zheng) and is often translated as "Squeeze" or "Press."

Meaning of Ji (挤):

  • Ji involves applying force forward and inward, typically using both hands together to compress or squeeze the opponent's energy.

  • It is not a push (like An), but rather a focused, concentrated force, often through a diagonal or spiral pathway.

  • The intention is to compress the opponent’s center and break their balance.

Application in Martial Context:

Used when you're close to your opponent and want to disrupt their root by compressing their structure.

You might apply Ji after leading the opponent off balance (e.g., with Lu), then stepping in to issue power through the centerline.
